Durham Constabulary has an exciting opportunity available for either substantive Chief Inspectors or Inspectors on promotion to join our forward thinking, and modern Police Force.
As a Chief Inspector with Durham Constabulary, your ability to engage and inspire your teams will underpin the delivery of the high quality of service expected by our communities. As a visible leader with a strong value base you’ll demonstrate a commitment to the welfare and development of your team generating the motivation and enthusiasm that delivers high levels of performance. You’ll demonstrate outstanding operational competence at the tactical/strategic level and have the personal resilience to deal with the significant demands of leading a team and balancing competing priorities.

Recruitment Timetable
Closing date for applications Monday 17th August 2026
Interview Hints & Tips Tuesday 1st September 2026 12-1pm via Microsoft TEAMs
Interview dates 10th, 11th, 15th September (1 ½ hour slot – 30 minutes prep, 1 hour interview)
Once you have submitted your application form your application will be subject to an eligibility sift and marked shortlisting.
If shortlisted, you will then be invited to 1 formal interview which will include a 10-minute presentation and 4 Competency Values Framework (CVF) questions with our executive team and HR. More information on this is provided via our Interview hints and tips session over TEAMs Tuesday 1st September 12-1pm
If successful you will progress to a standard medical assessment, a substance misuse test and a job-related fitness test (JRFT) which may be held on a separate day. The fitness test will comprise an endurance test.
