A man has been jailed for six years after attacking a woman with a machete and leaving her with life-changing injuries.
Jack Muncaster made threats towards the woman’s partner before damaging her car at around 11.30pm on Friday, April 19.
The 21-year-old then went on to slash the woman’s arm, leaving her with a significant wound on her forearm.
She required extensive hospital treatment and still has not regained full use of her hand.
The incident, which happened on Burnip Road, in Murton, was captured on CCTV and Muncaster was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, criminal damage, and possession of a knife in a public place.
He admitted the offences and appeared at Durham Crown Court today where he was jailed for six years.
A 17-year-old boy was also convicted of criminal damage. He has been released on bail and will be sentenced next month.
Detective Constable Jessica Palmer, from Peterlee CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for the woman involved, who has been left with life changing injuries as a result of Muncaster’s actions.
“The impact of knife crime on individuals, families and communities is truly devastating and long-lasting.
“We will always take robust action against those who choose to carry knives and use them to harm others.”
