As football fans across the country prepare to cheer on England, a simple takeaway order could also deliver a potentially life-saving message.
Ahead of the match, our Community Safety Manager has been visiting takeaway businesses across County Durham to distribute domestic abuse helpline stickers, which are being placed on takeaway boxes and bags.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the support available for anyone experiencing domestic abuse, while also encouraging those concerned about their own behaviour to seek help. By placing the information directly into people's homes, the initiative provides a discreet way for victims, survivors and perpetrators to access support.
Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or background, and incidents can increase during major sporting events. The stickers act as a silent reminder that help is available, whether from the police or specialist support services.
If you are experiencing domestic abuse, call 101, or 999 if you are in immediate danger.
For those who would prefer not to contact the police, confidential support is available 24 hours a day:
Both services provide support for men and women.
As communities come together to enjoy the football, we want to remind everyone that there is never an excuse for domestic abuse.
