Saying goodbye to Inspector Katrina Meisuria

“Thank you for everything.”

The words of Inspector Katrina Meisuria as she marked her final day in policing this week.

Medically retiring after 22 years working in Durham Constabulary, her time in the job has ended sooner than she hoped.

But despite the sadness, she said she is taking away more than two decades of happy memories, lifelong friends and a knowledge that she has made a lifetime of difference to the people she has served.

Having started her career in 2004, she found herself working in many different areas of the force, and it was her work helping the most vulnerable within our community that is closest to her heart.

“Policing has never just been a job to me, it’s been a huge part of who I am,” she said. “Over the past two decades I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredible people.

“People who show up every day, in all conditions, at all hours, to do a job that most people will never truly understand.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done, the people we’ve helped and the difference we’ve made in people’s lives.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for the support they’ve shown me during this difficult time. It has meant more to me than I can properly put into words.

“While I may be leaving the job, the memories and friends will last forever.

“Take my advice, buy the shoes, eat the cake, but not all of it, and enjoy every minute because life is so precious.”

Katrina now plans to spend time with family and friends and enjoy each day.
