Man charged following suspected sexual assault in Darlington

A man has appeared at court following an investigation into a suspected sexual assault in Darlington.
Police were called following reports that a woman had been touched inappropriately by a man in parkland off Blackwell Lane at around 7.30am last Friday (September 25).
An investigation was launched and officers identified several lines of enquiry, which included reviewing CCTV, carrying out house-to-house enquiries, and speaking to witnesses.
As a result, a suspect was identified and a 30-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning (September 30).
He was brought into custody and questioned by officers.
James Thompson, of no fixed abode, was later charged with sexual assault, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress on account of a person’s sex.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning (October 1).
No formal pleas were entered, and he was remanded to appear back at the same court on October 21.
