A man has died following a collision yesterday evening.
Officers were called just before 4.45pm yesterday (January 9) to a collision involving a van and a pedestrian on Sawmills Lane, in Brandon.
The pedestrian - 60-year-old Paul Smith, of The Orchards, Brandon - sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, for treatment.
Sadly, he died in hospital this afternoon as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the van - a white Citroen Dispatch - was uninjured.
Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The road was busy with vehicles at the time, and investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage that could assist their enquiries.
Anyone who can help is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 261 of January 9, or contact us online at www.durham.police.uk
