Busy start to the year for force's custody staff

Happy New Year from all of us at Durham Constabulary!

We hope you all had a fantastic night welcoming in the new year.

While people were out celebrating, we had officers and staff working hard to keep you safe – including D Relief custody, who worked the nightshift last night.

They have had an extremely busy start to the new year dealing with dozens of prisoners from across the county.

Many of those arrests were made for assaults, but officers also detained suspects for drink driving, criminal damage, affray, sexual assault, and burglary.

If you’re continuing the celebrations today, please stay safe and look after each other – the last thing we want is for you to be starting the new year in a police cell.
