Thirty three arrests in domestic abuse crackdown

Police have arrested 33 people during an operation targeting domestic abuse suspects.

Dedicated teams of officers were deployed across our area last week to track, locate, and arrest individuals who are wanted for domestic abuse offences.

The activity, which took place under Operation Sunrise, resulted in the arrest of 33 people for a range of offences, such as rape, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and stalking.

Investigations are ongoing and officers are continuing to carry out further enquiries.

Inspector Emily Agar, who led the operation alongside Sergeant Stefan Lawson, said: “Our first Operation Sunrise to target outstanding domestic abuse suspects took place in June this year and was a huge success, which resulted in the arrest of 45 people over a two-week operation.

“This activity has built on that success, with the arrest of a further 33 people, over the week-long operation, who we believe are responsible for recent domestic abuse against their partners, ex-partners, and family members.

“By running operations like this and concentrating our resources on outstanding suspects, we can take safeguarding action, speed up investigations, and help deliver improved outcomes for victims.

“Domestic abuse in any form is unacceptable – everyone deserves to feel safe; nobody should have to suffer at the hands of another.
