PD Chewy gets to work

PD Chewy was deployed alongside response and Durham Roads & Armed Policing officers in the early hours of this morning following reports of a garage burglary in Bishop Auckland.
Suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a WV Golf after stealing a strimmer.
The car was immediately put on the hot list for all patrolling units and quickly spotted just five minutes later.
The car was travelling at high speeds hitting 90mph in 30mph zones and failed to stop for officers, with a pursuit authorised, but ultimately had to be abandoned due to the risk posed to the public.
However, the hunt didn’t stop there when officers responded to reports of suspicious activity in the Etherley Dene area and located the vehicle.
Now for the fun part. PD Chewy was deployed alongside the force drone which resulted in a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy being found hiding in a front garden and some bushes.
Both seemed to know the drill after hearing PD Chewy’s bark as they lay perfectly still face down. One sheepishly gave a thumbs up when asked if he understood the police caution.
Both were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and burglary. The teenager was also arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence or insurance. They were taken into police custody where they remain.
