Man wanted by police for eight years is charged

A man who has been wanted by police for eight years has been charged with multiple offences.

Leroy Breton was arrested at Luton Airport yesterday evening (September 15) on his return to the UK from Malaga following his departure in 2018.

Following his arrest, the 47-year-old was brought up to County Durham and charged with:

• Engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour
• Three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm
• Two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent
• Three counts of rape
• Sexual assault
• Stalking

The charges relate to the alleged abuse of a woman between 2016 and 2018 in the Stanley area.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (September 17).
