Man charged after fire at Darlington leisure complex

A man has been charged following a fire in Darlington.

Police were called at 7.55pm on Friday (September 11) to the fire which had started in the underground bin area of the DL1 complex in the town centre.

Colleagues from the fire service also attended and extinguished the blaze.

Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident.

An investigation into the fire was launched, which is being treated as arson, and officers arrested a 42-year-old local man.

He was bought into police custody where he was questioned by officers and later charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (September 14).
