Four boys arrested following Crook assault

Four boys have been arrested following an assault in Crook over the weekend.

Police were called at around 8.40pm on Saturday (September 19) following reports of a fight taking place at a bus stop in the market place.

Video footage from the incident was also widely circulated on social media which showed two teenage boys being attacked by a large group of youths.

An investigation into the incident was launched, which led to the arrest of four boys yesterday (September 20) on suspicion of affray.

The boys – one aged 17, two aged 15, and one 11-year-old – were brought into police custody where they were questioned by officers.

They have been released on bail with a curfew while further enquiries are carried out.

Under their curfew, the boys must stay at home between 4.30pm and 7am Monday to Friday. On weekends, they are only allowed out with a parent.

Inspector Andy Reeves, from Crook Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “The scenes we saw in Crook this weekend were absolutely appalling.

“Our enquiries have so far resulted in the arrest of four youths, and we have identified further suspects who will be brought in for questioning.

“Violence and disorder like this will not be tolerated in our community, and those involved in Saturday’s incident will be dealt with robustly.”
