Man charged with attempted murder of police officer

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a collision in the Horden area on Monday morning (August 17).

Durham officers responded to a report from colleagues at Cleveland Police stating that one of their officers had been struck by a car while carrying out enquiries in our force area.

The officer sustained injuries to his arm and leg and was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment.

Following a short pursuit ending in the Trimdon Grange area, a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody, where he has since been charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.

Jonathan Kenneth Collingwood, of Hartlepool, was remanded into custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, August 19).
