A special evening for 19 new recruits

A very warm welcome to our 19 newest recruits! 

Last night (Wednesday, August 5) they officially began their policing careers at their attestation ceremony, where they swore an oath in the presence of a Justice of the Peace and became holders of the Office of Constable.

During the ceremony, they also received their warrant cards and were officially sworn in in front of Chief Constable Rachel Bacon and Deputy Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Graham Hall.

The officers will now begin 18 weeks of intensive training before joining local response teams across County Durham and Darlington.

Chief Constable Rachel Bacon said: “It’s always a proud moment to see new officers join the force in front of their friends and family. They are embarking on a hugely rewarding career where they will make a positive difference every day.

“It’s vital for us to have the best officers with the right skills and training to prevent crime and deliver an excellent service to our communities.
