Catch of the day!

On Sunday afternoon (February 8) our motorcycle section, alongside colleagues from other teams across the force, responded to reports of a burglary in the Brandon area of Durham.

The suspects were believed to have stolen numerous vapes from the premises and made off on an unregistered electric off-road bike.

Response officers arrived within minutes following the 999 call, trailed by bikes who found the suspects parked up in a nearby field.

On recognising our officer, the pair tried to make off but couldn’t jump on their bike - a Sur-Ron - quick enough, so instead decided to leg it and made off on foot, pursued by the off-road bike.

The pair took to fence hopping to escape the bike however our drone re-located them within seconds, and they were then monitored by our eyes in the sky (National Police Air Service aircraft).

The helicopter traced the pair hiding in a garden and guided officers in, and the pair were eventually detained.

The boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and driving offences.

The 15-year-old was released on bail whilst the 14-year-old, who we cannot name for legal reasons, was charged with driving several offences including no licence, failure to stop, driving on moor land, failure to comply with the excise and registration act, having no insurance, and failure to wear protective headgear.

He will appear at Newton Aycliffe Youth Court on April 24.
