Women who robbed vulnerable men jailed

 

Tracey Cornish and Bethany Ruby Carr would call at the vulnerable victims’ home late at night before demanding money.

 

Cornish and Carr forced their way into the home of their first victim last September before prising his wallet and cash from his trouser pocket.

 

Then in October the pair visited another elderly man before Cornish kicked and threatened him with a broken bottle. The pair made off with his wallet, cash and his house keys.

 

They were arrested after being spotted at a cash machine trying to use the stolen cards.

 

Carr, 27, pleaded not guilty to robbery but changed her plea after the jury had been sworn in and was handed a total of three years and four months in prison after also pleading guilty to a single count of handling stolen goods.

 

Cornish, 46, also pleaded not guilty to robbery but was found guilty after a trial and sentenced to five years and six months in prison. She was also ordered to pay £228 in costs.

Both victims were granted ten year restraining orders against the pair.

 

Neighbourhood sergeant, Peter Newman, said: “Cornish and Carr undoubtedly preyed on these vulnerable men and officers worked tirelessly to collect all the evidence to put them before the courts.

 

“We hope these sentences give their victims some peace of mind and reassure the community that we will relentlessly pursue those who try to take advantage of our vulnerable people.”
