Nuisance offender banned from Durham City

Another nuisance offender has been banned from Durham City for two years.

Joshua Downing appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court where he was issued a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after blighting the city with criminal activity.

The CBO bans the 28-year-old from Durham City where he frequently drank alcohol on the streets - in breach of the Public Safety Protection Order - assaulted people, and was involved in several public order incidents.

Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Clarke said: “This is another great result for the people of Durham City. Our team are using innovative tools, such as targeted criminal orders along with intelligence-led and visible patrols to tackle offenders.

“Downing was a menace to other people who want to enjoy the city in peace. By banning him from the city, along with a large cohort of similar offenders, it sends out a strong message that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

“I would like to thank residents, business owners and visitors who are continuing to report incidents to us and are helping us make their streets safer.”
