A burglar who stole several items from an unoccupied flat has been jailed.
Dean English broke into the address on Troutbeck Way, in Peterlee, on the morning of February 7 last year.
Once inside, he stole the contents of the flat, which was ready for new occupants to move into, before making off.
He was later identified by an officer after he was captured on CCTV at the scene.
The 43-year-old of Seaham replied no comment in his interview with police but at Durham Crown Court this week he pleaded guilty to burglary.
He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.
PC Josh Kirby, of Peterlee Volume Crime Team, said: “Burglary has a huge impact on victims and the wider community in which the crime is committed.
“We hope this sentence provides some relief to those in the area and sends out a message to anyone thinking of committing this type of crime that it will not be tolerated.”
