We may have said goodbye to the Knife Angel, but our weapon surrender scheme will continue.
From August 1, it will be illegal to own, sell, make, or import ninja swords under new laws.
If you have one, you can hand it in safely at selected police stations across County Durham.
You may be eligible for compensation if you surrender a ninja sword between today (July 1) and July 31, as part of a Government scheme under Ronan’s Law.
Learn more about the scheme here: Ninja sword surrender and compensation scheme - GOV.UK
You can also hand in any knives or machetes into our surrender bins.

What to do:
Anyone caught in possession of a ninja sword after July 31, will be prosecuted.
Help us to keep our communities safe – don’t make pointless choices.
If you are aware of anyone who carries a knife or have concerns that someone you know may carry a knife where you live, please report it to police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
