Winners announced in Knife Angel art competition

 

Budding young artists from seven local junior schools were challenged to create a design inspired by the powerful Knife Angel sculpture – which is coming to Newton Aycliffe this June, a first for our force area.

 

One winner was chosen from each school, all of which recently hosted special assemblies for Year 5 and 6 pupils to learn more about the Angel and the message behind it: that carrying a knife is pointless.

 

Sergeant Andy Boyd and his team visited each of the winning pupils in person to share the exciting news and present them with a £30 Amazon gift voucher, kindly provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner.

 

The winning designs have also inspired the final look of our official Knife Angel logo, produced by the town’s training and apprenticeship provider, Optimum Skills.

 

All of the amazing artwork will be proudly displayed throughout the Knife Angel’s stay, so be sure to come along in June and see the creativity and effort that these youngsters have put in.

 

The arrival of the sculpture will also mark the start of a month-long initiative, 'Pointless', raising awareness about the risks, consequences, and emotional impact of knife crime.
