Tributes have been paid to a “beloved father” who sadly died in a road traffic collision at the weekend.
Police were called just after 5pm on Friday (April 18) following the collision between a Vauxhall Combo, Audi A1 and Suzuki SX4 in Causey Road, Stanley.
The front seat passenger of the Vauxhall, Kevin Wilson, suffered severe injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary but despite the best efforts of medics, sadly died the next day.
Mr Wilson’s family have paid tribute to the 55-year-old and in a statement said: "Kevin was a beloved father, son, brother, grandad, uncle and friend to many, he will be sadly missed and has left a huge hole in all of our hearts.
“Please allow his family the space and time they need to grieve.”
Our thoughts remain with Mr Wilson’s family and they are being supported by specialist officers.
The passenger in the Audi – a 15-year-old girl - suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital but is expected to recover.
The driver of the Audio – an 18-year-old man – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst under the influence of drugs and possession with intent to supply.
He was taken into custody but has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
An investigation is ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident reference number 260 of April 18.
