Planning on an eggcellent Easter weekend?
We hope you have a great one but here’s our plea, don’t drive under the influence.
Our roads policing officers will be carrying out a special operation this Easter weekend called Op Bonnet (see what we did there?) targeting drug drivers.
Research shows that when people get together with their friends and family, they’re more likely to use drugs or increase their drug use.
And that means in turn they’re also more likely to drive under the influence, putting themselves and others at risk.
Dozens of drug wipe testing strips have been provided for the operation by the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner and officers will be using them to conduct extra checks across the weekend.
So if you use drugs and you’re thinking of driving, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Passengers are also asked to make sure their driver is fit to drive and if in doubt, get a taxi.
None of our officers want to be knocking on your loved ones’ doors this weekend with the worst news they could hear so please, just think twice and have a safe plan for getting home.
It’s just not worth it.
