On or off duty, we’ll always be here to help.
Last week, one of our Durham Roads and Armed Policing officers was out for a run while off duty in Darlington when he heard a woman screaming from a house nearby.
The woman was holding her one-year-old baby who was limp, unresponsive, and wasn’t breathing.
She had called for an ambulance and the officer ran over to help, carrying out CPR on the child until paramedics arrived.
The baby and his mother were rushed to hospital where he was treated by doctors.
We’re really pleased to say that after spending the night in hospital, he is now doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
All of our officers are trained in basic first aid, but our specialist roads and armed policing officers receive further, more advanced life-saving training.
While we hope they’ll never have to use it, we’re really proud of this officer whose quick-thinking actions had a positive impact on a difficult situation and no doubt helped to save a little boy’s life.
