Prolific shoplifter banned from Durham City

A prolific shoplifter has been issued a criminal behaviour order banning him from Durham City for three years.

Kristian Osbaldestin appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates court earlier this month where he was issued with the order after repeated offences.

The order bans him from the city and from remaining in a store when asked to leave.

If he breaches the band, the 42-year-old will be arrested and taken to court.

Inspector Dave Clarke, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Criminal enforcement is not always the first avenue we look at when faced with repeat offenders living in difficult circumstances.

“On multiple occasions we have offered support to Mr Osbaldestin, but we can only help those who are willing to accept that help.

“He has been unwilling to work with support services, and instead chosen to continue offending.

“Our ultimate aim is for business owners, residents, and visitors to feel safe in our city.

“The CBO’s give us more ammunition to remove people like Osbaldestin from the streets and allows us to crackdown on retail crime.”
