A man has sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A1(M) at Carrville yesterday afternoon.
Shortly before 4.45pm, emergency services were called to the A1(M), close to the southbound exit slip road of Junction 62 following reports of a collision between a white Renault Kangoo van and a motorcycle.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 40s, sadly died.
His family have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.
A woman in her 20s, who was the pillion passenger of the motorcycle, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the van was unhurt.
The road was closed in both directions for several hours while collision investigation worked at the scene, but it has since reopened.
