Man detained and drone seized during Lumiere

Last night at Lumiere, our drone detection equipment alerted officers to a non-emergency service drone flying within the restricted airspace that has been put in place for the event.

The equipment was able to show officers the location of the drone and the pilot, along with serial numbers, height, and the speed of the drone.

Using this information, police drones were able to locate the individual visually and direct ground officers in.

A man in his twenties was detained by officers and reported for offences under the Air Navigation Order. His equipment was also seized.

Please remember that drones are not permitted in Durham city centre during Lumiere from 3pm to 11pm.

There is a temporary airspace restriction in place preventing all drones flying, other than emergency service drones.

Please don’t risk your drone being seized.
