Force says farewell to much-loved volunteer

This week we said a fond farewell to Barry Cairns – one of our amazing admin volunteers.

Barry joined us back in 2017 and minus a short break during Covid he has volunteered in Headquarters every Thursday ever since.

He is often found doing his favourite job - shredding.

Deputy Chief Constable Ciaron Irvine presented him with a Certificate of Commendation for all the work he has done to support colleagues, both police officers and staff over the years.

Barry takes part in his volunteering through an initiative with Ethicare, which helps adults with disabilities to lead empowered, independent, and fulfilling lives.
