Man and woman jailed for robbery in Darlington

Kerry Nevison and Kevin Warne attended a shop in Neasham Road last June.

 

The shopkeeper quickly recognised Nevison, who was known to shoplift and refused her entry.

 

The pair left the store together and as they did, they spotted a vulnerable man who had just been to the same store for groceries and had been seen withdrawing money.

 

Nevison and Warne followed the man onto Belgrave Street and asked him for money.

 

The victim kindly gave Nevison some change before she grabbed his shopping bag in an attempt to steal it whilst Warne grabbed his wallet and ran off.

 

Thankfully, members of the public noticed what was going on and managed to retrieve the wallet and gave it back to the victim who was understandably shaken.

 

In a victim impact statement, he said: “The incident left me feeling like I was the one who had done something wrong, I began constantly watching my back to make sure nobody could attack me again. I felt scared and unsafe.”

 

Last month, Kerry Nevison and Kevin Warne attended Teesside Crown Court where Kerry, 45 was sentenced to 29 months in prison.

 

Kevin, 33 was also sentenced to 27 months in prison.

 

Detective Constable Laura Fairhurst, from Darlington CID said: “This was a very traumatic incident for the victim who has sadly since passed away.

 

“Both the defendants preyed on the victim’s vulnerabilities and seized their opportunity.

 

“I would like to thank the members of the public who came to the victims rescue in his time of need.

 

“Sadly, the victim is not here to get justice however I hope his family can take some comfort knowing they are both behind bars.”
