Working smarter not harder.
Policing our rural communities is very different to helping residents in our towns and in January we launched Rurali, a new scheme to enhance the safety and security of rural and urban fringe communities.
Supported by Safer Streets funding, secured by the Police and Crime Commissioner, the scheme is specifically tailored to support rural areas and has already seen success with a dedicated intelligence officer and extra technology to help track down criminals who try to target our rural communities.
The technology includes trackers and drones to support the work of investigating officers.
And as we mark National Rural Crime Action Week, we continue to advance Rurali, which acts an umbrella for everyone involved in tackling rural crime from police officers and volunteers to people who live and work in the local community.
Inspector Michael Sammut praised the work of all involved.
He said: “Rurali represents our collaborative effort between the police and the public, and has already shown that by working together, we can make a big impact.
“Under the Rurali initiative, arrests have been made and property has been recovered – largely thanks to having that central hub to allow the intelligence to be captured and actioned.
“It’s been brilliant to see the rural communities that often feel isolated and vulnerable now benefiting from Rurali.”
