Two men have been charged and will appear in court after a pedestrian was struck by a car in County Durham.
A 50-year-old man was struck by a black Renault Megane in Faraday Street, Ferryhill at approximately 2.45pm on Thursday (December 19).
The incident followed an altercation in the street involving a number of people.
The victim was given medical attention at the roadside then taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.
A 35-year-old man, from Spennymoor, who was arrested at the scene has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, driving with no insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
A 27-year-old man, from Shildon, was also charged with affray.
Both have been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning (December 21).
Two women aged 30 and 33, and a man aged 35 who were also arrested have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
