No insurance, no vehicle.
Officers from our Durham Roads & Armed Policing Unit have been targeting uninsured drivers who put others at risk by ignoring the law.
During a week of targeted action, officers teamed up with the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB), enabling them to access extensive databases to identify if a person has insurance.
And as a result, 133 uninsured vehicles have been taken off the roads, keeping other road users safe.
Strategic Inspector Andy Howarth said: “Working with MIB allows us to dedicate our time and focus our efforts on identifying and removing uninsured vehicles from roads across the county.
“Tackling this issue is hugely important as there is a clear link between those that drive without insurance and commit other offences.
“These operations keep us all safer and we will continue to target those who selfishly put others at risk.”
Driving without insurance can mean you have your vehicle seized, and potentially crushed, receive a £300 fixed penalty notice and six points on your licence.
You could also face court and receive an unlimited fine and/or a driving ban which can impact job prospects.
Officers target uninsured and abandoned vehicle all-year-round under Operation Takeaway.
Don’t risk it, insure your vehicle.
