Man who threatened woman at knifepoint in a car park has been jailed

In December last year, William Mee approached the woman as she was putting her shopping in the boot of her vehicle in Morrisons, on North Road, Darlington.

 

Mee produced a slip knife and held onto the car door to prevent the victim from closing it, before repeatedly demanding the car keys from her.

 

The victim bravely shouted for help and as she did, Mee fled the scene.

 

Officers carried out an area search for the suspect but were unable to locate him at the time.

 

However, Mee was picked up on CCTV leaving the store and his electronic GPS tag placed him at the location at the time of the offence.

 

With this evidence, officers were able to arrest Mee on suspicion of attempted robbery. He was interviewed and later charged with the offence.

 

The 33-year-old, of Cricket Field Row, Darlington, appeared at Teesside Crown Court today (September 19) where he was jailed for six years, with an additional three years on extended licence.
