A man is in hospital in a critical condition following an incident in Darlington yesterday.
Emergency services were called to Coniscliffe Road shortly after 10pm on Monday (August 26) following concerns for the welfare of a man, who was on the roof of a building.
Road closures were put in place while officers, working with the fire and rescue service, tried for several hours to help the man down from the roof to safety.
Sadly, the man suffered critical injuries after jumping from the roof and was taken to hospital by ambulance yesterday evening (August 27).
Durham Constabulary has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct following the incident.
The roads have all reopened.
