Proud moment last week as some of our dedicated Detectives received diplomas in 'Specialist Interviewing' from University of Sunderland.
The ceremony, held at Durham Constabulary HQ, was attended by Professor Gary Shaw and Dr Ian Carr, who lead the investigative courses at the university.
Congratulations to DS Gavin Wilkes, A/DI Stuart Chaney, DC Sunil Weerasinghe, DC Tony Barker, DC Anna Carter, and DC Beth Otty for their hard work and commitment to enhancing their skills in this critical area.
Specialist interviewing is vital for securing evidence, prosecuting offenders, and ensuring justice for victims. Each detective also contributed by conducting research to inform and improve operational practices, sharing their findings to benefit their colleagues.
DCI Simon Turner, who organised the training, shared: “The programme has been part of our effort to invest in our staff and professionalise the work of investigators through academic qualification alongside their operational competence. It is exceptional to see the officers being commended with professional qualifications for their efforts.”
We're excited to continue our partnership with University of Sunderland and look forward to more opportunities for our investigators to advance their expertise.
