We would like to thank the community for their support following a large police operation in Newton Aycliffe yesterday.
Residents will have seen a heightened police presence after officers were deployed to assist with both a funeral, and in response to information relating to a possibility of planned disorder linked to the recent national disorder.
Officers worked closely with partner agencies throughout the day to maintain public safety and monitor traffic issues.
During the operation, three people were arrested and four dispersal notices were issued. However, these were not believed to be directly linked to people attending the funeral.
Inspector Sarah Honeyman, from Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Team, said: “We worked closely with our partner agencies to maintain public safety throughout the day.
“I am grateful to the community for their support and cooperation prior to and throughout this operation.”
