An encouraging start to our summer drink drive checks last night.
After yesterday’s England match, officers conducted checks on the A167 at Thinford – with no drivers blowing over the legal limit.
Three drivers were found to have alcohol in their system, but were under the drink driver limit.
They were advised that any alcohol, even a small amount, can seriously impair your ability to drive.
Alcohol breaks down half an hour after your last drink at a rate of around one unit per hour. To put this into perspective, there are around 15 units in 5 pints.
All vehicles were given a safety check while they were stopped, with one vehicle found to have a defective tyre and three others with defective lights.
Please ensure you regularly check your vehicle to ensure it is safe and roadworthy.
The checks will continue across County Durham and Darlington throughout the next six weeks.
