Within our Local Policing Command is the Prisoner Handling Team – they deal with prisoners who have been arrested for less serious or complex offences. They’re based across the force area and each team comprises of police officers and investigation-trained police staff overseen by a sergeant.
Emily Knights is one of them. She’s worked for the force for the past four years as a response officer in Darlington and the south of the county. She’s now a sergeant in Darlington’s Prisoner Handling Team.
Tell us why response is a great job to work…
Response is the front line of policing, and we are there for people in their time of need. I get to make a difference in the community I work in and get to do it with a great group of people who are my team but also my friends. Response never gets boring, and every day is something different, you never stop learning.
What’s great about your team?
My team have people of all different ages and experiences. Even though I manage people at Peterlee, Darlington, and Durham we all work really well together as one collective team and support one another with every job.
Sum up response
Fun, fast paced and exciting. Every day is so very different, you never get bored and get to see and experience things you would never be able to if you weren’t a part of the Local Policing Team.
What’s your superpower other than being a cop?
Eurovision super fan!
