Meet Chester-le-Street response officer and full-time dog mam, PC Gee-Camarah – she’s been on response for the last three years.
Tell us why response is a great job to work…
Every day is different. You get such a variety of jobs, and it can be fast paced so you’re always busy. I like being able to help vulnerable people and be there for the public in emergencies or when they need us. I enjoy being able to go out to try and make a proper difference, there’s no job like it.
What’s great about your team?
All the laughs they give me. We go to some horrendous jobs that can be emotionally challenging, but the team always comes together afterwards to cheer each other up. They’re hardworking and give the best support. It’s often we have to work on Christmas day, birthdays, and family events but my team are like my second family, so it makes it a bit easier missing out on those days.
The only thing I can fault them on is they persuade me to get takeaways too much at work.
Sum up response.
Chaotic but exciting.
What’s your superpower other than being a cop?
I’m a dog mam to a naughty puppy who is worse behaved than some of the people we lock up. He keeps me busy on my rest days and it’s nice go come home to cuddles from him after a hard day at work.
