Prolific Ferryhill thief back behind bars

A prolific thief who stole burgers and cheese so he could sell them to “buy food” is back behind bars.

The irony was pointed out to Aaron Horner after he was arrested on October 13 following his theft from the Co-op in Ferryhill.

The 30-year-old said he stole the goods, worth £40, so he could buy food but officers pointed out he already had enough to make naked burgers.

Officers have tried to help Aaron Horner on numerous occasions to stop his offending, but he continues to offend.

And after his recent string of offences earlier this month, he was charged with theft and put before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 13.

Horner, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison. He was also ordered to pay £40 in compensation.

Inspector for Ferryhill, Rachel Hills, said: “The team have worked tirelessly to help Horner and try to reduce his offending but he continues to offend, causing disruption and harm to our community.

“Hopefully this sentence will give the community some respite and the team will continue to ensure that those who break the law are put before the courts.”
