Tragedy as man dies following collision last month

A man has sadly died following a collision last month.

Police were called at 12.45pm on Tuesday, January 14 following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Westlea Road, in Seaham.

The pedestrian was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries where he remained for several weeks.

Tragically, he died on Wednesday (February 12) from his injuries.

Today, he has been named as 70-year-old Paul Knox, from Seaham.

In a statement issued today, his family said: “Paul was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.

“He was treasured by all who knew him and will be missed dearly.   

“We wish to thank everyone for their continued support and ask now to be left in peace so that we can grieve together.”

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. He was released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are keen to speak to witnesses who have not already contacted police or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident.
