Prolific shoplifter jailed in time for Christmas

A shoplifter with a taste for Quality Street is now off the streets.

Carl Robinson brazenly took not one but 13 tubs of the Christmas favourites when he targeted businesses in Ferryhill earlier this month.

This was despite having suspended prison sentence for similar offences.

Neighbouhood team officers locked the 32-year-old, of Ferryhill, up on Monday night and put him before the court on Tuesday morning where he pleaded guilty to six thefts and one count of possessing a controlled drug.

He was sentenced to 37 weeks in prison after his suspended prison was activated and he was also barred from both the Co-op and Sainsbury stores in Ferryhill and ordered to pay costs.

Neighbourhood T/Sergeant Craig McGuire said: “Despite several attempts to help rehabiliate Robinson, he refuses to change and continues to target our businesses.

“This behaviour is not acceptable and we are glad he is now back behind bars so our community can have some respibte over Christmas at least.”
