Fraudster jailed targeting vulnerable woman

A fraudster who was arrested several times after targeting an elderly woman has been jailed.

Lillian Clare Davies was originally locked up for fraud after stealing the lady’s bank card from her home last June before being further charged with a second fraud, theft and harassment of the same victim just six months later.

In all, Davies stole more than £1,400 from her victim.

Ferryhill Neighbourhood Policing Team put the 40-year-old back before the court ten times in total for breaching her bail conditions or failing to attend court.

She was finally dealt with at Durham Crown Court yesterday where she pleaded guilty to burglary, fraud and failing to surrender to court bail.

Davies was sentenced to 30 months in prison and her victim granted a ten-year-restraining order.

Neighbourhood Sergeant, Pete Newman, said: “As a team we have had to spend a lot of our time and resources putting Davies back before the courts - she clearly thinks the law doesn’t apply to her.

“Thankfully her luck has finally ran out and we are relieved to see she is now behind bars which will hopefully give her victim and the rest of the community some respite from her criminal behaviour.

“We will never stop pursuing criminals but those who target our vulnerable residents are particularly despicable.”
