Public notice of Gross Misconduct Hearing

The place at which the hearing will take place: Peterlee Police Station, St Aidans Way, Peterlee SR8 1QR.

Authorised members of the public wishing to attend the accelerated misconduct hearing should attend at 9.45am (full details to be provided to successful applicants)

Particulars OF CONDUCT

1. From around September 2020 to September 2024 inclusive, the former officer was, or had been, in an intimate personal relationship with Ms A and was thereby personally connected to her.

2. On diverse dates in the weeks prior to 22 September 2024, the former officer engaged in violent, threatening and other abusive behaviour towards Ms A in that he:
   • Slammed Ms A’s head onto a wall.
   • Caused injury and bruising to Ms A’s eye.
   • Caused injury and bruising to Ms A’s chest.
   • Caused damage to the wall of the home you shared with Ms A.

3. On 22 September 2024 the former officer engaged in violent, threatening and other abusive behaviour towards Ms A in that he:
   • Hit Ms A in the face causing injury and bruising to the side of her face.
   • Banged Ms A’s head against a door on one or more occasions.
   • Pinned Ms A to the floor.
   • Caused injury and bruising to Ms A’s hand.

4. By the former officer’s actions particularised above he:
   • Assaulted Ms A; and
   • Subjected Ms A to domestic abuse.

5. The actions as alleged breached the following Standards of Professional Behaviour:

• Discreditable Conduct in that your actions are capable of bringing the police service into disrepute and undermining the relationship of trust and confidence between the police and the public.

SERIOUSNESS

6. As a result of that stated herein, if proved, the conduct individually and cumulatively amounts to breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour so serious as to justify dismissal and amount to gross misconduct.
