 Man charged following armed robbery at Post Office


A MAN has been charged following an armed robbery at a Post Office.

The incident happened at the Post Office on Temperance Terrace, Ushaw Moor, at about 4.50pm yesterday (December 5).

A man entered the store and threatened the postmaster with a hammer.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, breach of a restraining order and attempting to abscond from lawful custody.

Detective Constable Laura Chisholm, of Durham CID said: “The staff were very brave during this incident, refusing to give the robber money.

“I hope that the residents of Ushaw Moor feel reassured that the culprit has been caught so quickly.”
