 Man arrested following alleged knifepoint robbery


A man has been arrested followed an alleged knifepoint robbery in Darlington.

The incident happened at Sangha Stores on Brankin Road on Sunday (December 1) at 5.30pm.

The suspect is believed to have threatened shop workers with a knife before making off down Brankin Road, towards Claremont Road, with around £200 in cash.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident. He has been interviewed by officers and has been released under investigation.

Detective Sergeant Claire Callaghan, from Darlington CID, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for those who were threatened while simply doing their job.

“Thankfully nobody received any injuries, but the shop workers have been left extremely shaken.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously at the time, please call us on 101, quoting incident number 320 of December 1.

“Alternatively, information can be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
