Home owners are being warned to check their locks are adequate, after a number of ‘lock snapping’ burglaries in the south of the county.
The break-ins occur when thieves manage to snap the cylinder of the lock by applying pressure, and then gain access to the property using the broken mechanism.
A simple way to prevent it happening is to check that existing locks are up-to-standard, or upgrade them to a ‘break-secure cylinder’. An approved locksmith can offer advice on the standard of an existing lock; alternatively, break-secure cylinder locks can be purchased from DIY stores and should bear the upgraded standard TS007.
