Police are moving into a temporary new home in Newton Aycliffe.

Scheduled to open in the week beginning February 17, the premises at GLOW will provide an operational base from which the existing Response and Neighbourhood Policing teams will continue to provide the same 24/7police service for the town.

The Neighbourhood team and Front Counter services will additionally continue to maintain a town centre presence at the Fire Station on Central Avenue.

Although there will be no public access to the police base at GLOW, members of the public will still be able to access police at the Fire Station between 10amand 5pm Monday to Friday, just as they do now, with the same dedicated phone system available to the public outside of office hours.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “As the public would rightly expect, we are fully committed to maintaining an effective and high-quality policing service to the residents of Newton Aycliffe.

“The opening of the GLOW premises guarantees that we maintain that presence in the town round-the-clock”.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner said work was continuing to identify a permanent police base in the town, following the expiry of the force’s 10-year lease at the fire station premises.
