Preparations are in full swing for her majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Ahead of what is expected to be a busy but exciting four-day holiday, police are asking people to take it steady as they enjoy celebrating with friends and family.

Our officers will be highly visible in local towns and villages, celebrating with residents whilst keeping people safe and ensuring everyone has a joyful time.

Assistant Chief Constable Tonya Antonis said: “These celebrations are a chance for new memories to be made and for people to join together in a safe manner.

"The vast majority of people are responsible but we know some people will drink to excess so we would encourage everyone in County Durham and Darlington to go steady and enjoy their celebrations safely.

“The key advice is to know your limits and consider how you will get home safely, whether that be from a local pub or a street party - we hope you don’t need us but we’ll be there if you do.

“Above all, I would like to wish everyone a happy Jubilee and I hope we can join with you to enjoy this very special time."
