A suspected drink driver who stopped for a late night McDonalds was arrested in Darlington last night after staff raised the alarm.

Officers were called to the popular drive-thru restaurant at Morton Park shortly before midnight after staff became suspicious, reporting the customer was displaying signs of slurred speech, smelling of alcohol and behaving strangely.

Road policing officers made their way to the scene and spotted the vehicle on Yarm Road heading towards McMullen Road.

A short five-minute pursuit commenced and the Audi A3 was pulled over.

Subsequently, a woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and driving under the influence of alcohol.

She was taken into custody where she was charged with the offences and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on June 20.
