Officers from Ferryhill Neighbourhood Team teamed up with enforcement officers from an electricity company to execute a warrant at an address in Davy Street, Ferryhill, this morning.
Officers discovered a cannabis farm with more than 50 plants at the property as well as an electricity meter which had been tampered with and being in a dangerous condition.
A man in his 20s was found within and arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity. He was taken into custody where he remains.
Sergeant Pete Newman said: “Illegal drugs have wide-ranging and harmful implication for our communities and we will always act on intelligence to keep residents safe.
“I’d like to thank those members of the community who reported their concerns and encourage them to keep working with us to help us to help them.”
